The latest installation project by Guillaume Adjutor Provost brings together a collection of military drawings and a projection of the video work Zooter. Rescued in an estate sale and presented on fragile metal supports, the corpus of drawings was made during the Second World War and would be attributable to the soldier Maurice Gagnon (1919-1944). In the background, the video piece traces a narrative intertwining the representations of satanism and the appearance of zoot fashion in Quebec at the turn of the 1940s. This exhibition takes the form of a cut-up of archives and narrative sequences emerge from subterranean motivations to Provost's artistic practice, namely Quebec vernacular imagery, economic systems, as well as the history and consciousness of social classes.
In the context of the installation Sans ennui, to the apparent certainties of the great historical narratives are added the hesitations of the marginal experiences. Thus, living in the margins reveals a state of extraction, if only for a brief moment, of history to better observe it from the outside. Sans ennui follows the exhibition Chambre réverbérante presented at Galerie Hugues Charbonneau in spring 2019, where sculptures and drawings made under self-hypnosis pointed to the intimate and subliminal materialization of desires.

Le plus récent projet installatif de Guillaume Adjutor Provost réunit une collection de dessins militaires et une projection inédite de l’œuvre vidéo Zooter. Rescapé dans une vente de succession et présenté sur de fragiles supports métalliques, le corpus de dessins fut réalisé pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale et serait attribuable au soldat Maurice Gagnon (1919-1944). En arrière-plan, l’œuvre vidéo trace un récit entrelaçant les représentations du satanisme et l’apparition de la mode zooter au Québec au tournant des années 1940. Cette exposition qui prend la forme d’un cut-up d’archives et de séquences narratives émerge des motivations souterraines à la pratique artistique de Provost, soit l’imagerie vernaculaire québécoise, les systèmes économiques, ainsi que l’histoire et la conscience des classes sociales.
Dans le contexte de l’installation Sans ennui, aux apparentes certitudes des grands récits historiques s'ajoutent les hésitations des expériences marginales. Ainsi, vivre en marge révèle un état d’extraction, ne serait-ce que pour un bref instant, de l’histoire pour mieux l’observer de l’extérieur. Sans ennui fait suite à l’exposition Chambre réverbérante présentée à la galerie Hugues Charbonneau au printemps 2019, où sculptures et dessins réalisés sous auto-hypnose pointaient vers la matérialisation intime et subliminale des désirs.
